23 ducklings in one clutch?!

Awww, look at all those little tails! Adorable! She does look proud of herself, and for good reason.
I'm trying to figure out the males from the females but I think it's still too soon. I think I can call out a few of them based on their sizes and personalities. The males of course are usually much more aggressive and assert themselves while the females I think stick closer to Mama. I just hope there's a good balance between the sexes. I think having 15+ Drakes out there would turn into a nightmare lol.

They just came now and got seeds and bread and quickly went off to find shade since the heat index is 105 here and one of the little ones was actually panting in the hot sun. Hopefully getting some treats from me will allow them to rest out of the sun and save their energy. It's so hot that even I can't go out there more than a few minutes before scurrying back inside. Summers in FL are hell on earth!

Born and raised in Fla. I remember these summers very much.
Even at 2am the heat index is still in the high 80s! I think about them hoping they're keeping cool somewhere overnight. The poor little things only hatched in summer and are probably thinking "What kind of a scorched world is this?!" lol. They're going to feel much better come November when it cools down---as will I. 😓

When I was growing up there was no air conditioning unless you were rich, schools had big fans to keep you from literally melting.

Here they are today 7/28. They don't come around every day anymore which is good. It tells me that Mama is teaching them how to survive by hunting for their own food. I haven't seen them in about 3 days and they appeared late afternoon today for their snacks and went on their way.
With so many, i'm relieved they're not making this their home base lol. Their coloring is beginning to come in so it'll be easier to tell them apart pretty soon. Still 19 though I couldn't get them all on one shot since they scatter all over the place now.

The big circle thing in the foreground is a cover for the sprinkler that went haywire the other day and flooded the area outside my patio. I was so terrified that one of my pipes burst under my home but it turned out to be the common area sprinkler pipe that burst---so the billing and repairing for that is thankfully on the HOA---until they raise the dues to cover it lol.
