23 ducklings in one clutch?!

Well, they don't particularly like being held, but they tolerate my presence. Especially if I have the food bucket, lol!

Yours are plenty cute! 🥰

You can already tell the males from females? I'm just beginning to and only by their sizes as drakes are always bigger. (and I bet i'm still wrong on some of them).

Somewhat. And mostly by size, yes! Other little indicators too, but I'm often wrong. Until the caruncles really start growing in. I wish I'd been able to set up breeding pairs/trios like I wanted to, right now I'm pretty much just guessing as to the parents.

I know the blue ones had to have a blue parent, since it's a co-dominant gene, but the chocolates and lilacs could be any of my drakes and hens! And if the lilac does turn out to be male, that means one of my blue boys carries chocolate. And I don't know which!

With yours, you know the parents are both black. :)

Blue ones?! Some are actually blue colored? All the Muscovy's around here are sadly the same old boring black. I did see a white one once while walking in another neighborhood and wanted to grab it and bring it back to my pond. To have a colorful flock like yours would be so fun to see each day waddling around out there.
The closest I have to a color pattern is a couple of the babies have black and white chests that make them look like little cows.

They come in a lot of colours, although not as many as chickens or domestic (mallard derived) ducks. The main colour genes are, I believe, Black, Chocolate, Blue, Bronze, and Lavender. From those using different combinations, you have a plethora of additional colours. Lilac is a mix of Chocolate and Blue.

Having issues again with uploading pics, so will try again later.

There we go, this is Mist. His feathers are a bit ratty and browned out here, they can't moult fast enough for me, lol!

The whole family came waddling over when they saw me come out to take trash bin out, but with 20 ducks the bread runs out so quickly and I have to wait until next week to order the 10lb duck food from Tractor Supply.

My neighbor came out and they all followed me down to her door and she had a plate of white rice that she throws out to them.

And they happily gobbled it all up! She told me they love it and it's cheaper than bread, so i'm going to cook a big bag of rice for them. I Googled it and it says both cooked and uncooked is ok for them...I would think they'd prefer to have it cooked?

I kept neighbor out of the shot in case she got nutty about her pic taken lol. And notice Mama stays in the back to allow her babies to get the first treats.

Look who showed up all by himself today! I guess he's a clever one to sneak away by himself and not have to fight 18 brothers and sisters for treats lol. I gave him some treats all to himself and he stuck around for a few minutes before swimming across the pond.
Mama and the rest were all the way on the other side starting to come over and he swam up to them and then joined the brood on the way back here....what a sneaky little devil! :)
