24 hour old pip

I believe it should pip at the big end but some claim it does not matter. Of course I am just a newbie!

I like the idea of starting a newbie thread!!!

I am getting an egg turner today and some more eggs!! I fell off but I am getting right back up and trying again!!

Sorry to hear that things didn't turn out, but now you're armed with a lot more information to help you with your next batch! Best of luck to you!

Thank you KLRA! It is so nice to have support--even if it is just cyber support!! I don't know too many irl that would understand! lol!

I know this thread is old...but for others that read it..i would like to share with you...that you CAN HELP hatch them and they can THRIVE! I have had near dead chicks in worse shape than the one that was culled is in the thread by member avonshire and had it LIVE! In fact the last one like that..i was 100% percent was going to die and now is a happy healthy hen..you just have to give them time to recover and some save a chick or sugar water...the KEY TO this all is knowing WHEN to help...you can wait to long to help in which case it will die..more than 24 hours pipped is a long time...I intervene sooner but only if it is struggling to breath or is healthy chirpping has slowed...unfortunately, this is one of those things that you learn from experience....also, when you do help hatch it you have to look for red blood vessels and you STOP! once you see those or you will get bleeding...bleeding is bad and you dont want that....you have to help the chick out in stages not all at once....if you do it to fast you kill it and also, you have to let it hatch itself even though you are helping otherwise it may be a weak chick because it didnt fight to hatch iteself...........also, you need to make sure that the yolk has had time to absorb...most chicks that dont asborb their yolk die..not all but most....hope this helps!!!anyone is free to email me for advice anytime! I hate to see any chick die or be culled.....thanks!

I agree--if it had not been my first hatch I would have given it time. I have helped others since then and they were fine. Experience!
