Hello!

This is my first time hatching eggs.
A friend lent me an old hovabator(circulated air), and I bought 2 dozen silkie eggs.
Out of the 24, 4 were infertile.
I saw movement in the 20 eggs when I candled them before lockdown. They were all well developed.
1/20 of the eggs hatched Saturday night (day 19).
8 hatched all throughout Sunday (day 20).
I haven’t seen any progress since the last egg hatched.
I did open the incubator earlier today for a couple seconds to take out the 9 chicks, as they were all dry and some were close to 2 days since hatching. When taking the chicks out I threw in a wet sponge and the hygrometer didn’t change much.
Would that have impacted the eggs?
There were no visible pips and the humidity was already high.
Day 1-18: 100 degrees, humidity fluctuating from 55%-25%.
Lockdown: 98-99 degrees, 70%-80% humidity.

I hear the occasional chirping coming from the incubator. I really hope for more to hatch out, but it’s been almost 24 hours since the last chick.

Could these chicks just be late, or is something wrong?

I don't think pulling the chicks out for that brief moment did anything to the unhatched eggs. Last month I did a hatch where I waited 27 days on one egg after the others hatched. I saw no.movement.at.all. The egg was white so it was super easy to candle too! But on day 27 a chick hatched. It was quite bizarre lol.
I'd leave it even until day 27, as long as it doesn't stink.
Did you rotate the eggs throughout the incubator during incubation?

Aw that gives me hope! I really hope these chicks are just a bit later than the others. I think I rotated the spots once but that’s it.

Also, the incubator smells funny. Could that be because of the chicks that hatched? Or is it for sure a rotten egg? I don’t want to take the eggs out to check yet, incase there are pips I don’t see.

Hatching chicks cause quite a bit of a smell just from the “leftovers” of hatching.

Yes, It cause some bit of smell, I read somewhere these can develop over the course of 21 days, with the proper incubator set-up and care. Is it correct?

Could the remaining eggs just be late? Or what would’ve caused just 1/2 of my eggs to not hatch? It’s the start of day 22 and no pips, but one egg is oozing something??

Also I haven’t heard the egg chirp since last night😟

If you have oozing and smell, that's probably rotten egg. Get that out, it exploding is a much bigger risk to any remaining chicks than the loss of humidity taking it out. Just have some warm water ready for the reservoirs, it'll bring the humidity back up real quick.
If you have no external pips, you can also check for internal ones and see what's going on with the rest.

If there's a mix of breeds, the hatch being a bit staggered is normal.

I just removed the oozing egg.
All of the eggs are pure silkie, with the slight chance of being Frizzled or Satin.
Would it be safe to candle them yet? I don’t want to not see a pip and kill a chick.

Try to play some momma hen noises/chick noises. I found a few videos on YouTube that were good to play. I would play them the noises 2-3x per day from day 18. The trick is to find videos without a lot of bad background noise (loud wind) or talking people or the other animals making louder noises in the video than the hen/chicks. The hen/chick noises are motivating to the ones in the egg and hatching.

good luck with the remaining eggs!
