24 weeks going on 25...

The heat can play a roll in their laying. My birds do slack off some when the temp is up in the 90's. I have had a RIR that didn't start laying until week 30.

My RIR started doing the squat thing last night and this morning... she was also going into places the chickens don't normally go, like between my shovels and storage case in the backyard... I just knew she was looking for a spot to lay... I grabbed her and threw her in the nest... she got out and i threw her in a second time... when I looked outside again, she was out... so I said forget it, and went about my day...

many hours later, I went outside to check, and they were acting normally... I was checking every single spot in the backyard, like I normally do... and then I checked the nest... where I threw the RIR this morning... I saw a little brown egg!! w00t w00t!!@@@

I finally got one! it must be from the RIR... now I'm just waiting for the others to follow suite... the golden sex-link doesn't squat or act like she will lay soon, but the silver wyandotte does look like she's ready... I'm starting to get eggcited!!

The weather here wasn't too bad these past few days... you guys are probably right, because it was pretty scorching for a few weeks before this...

Thanks guys...

just wondering, do squirrels eat eggs? i see a lot of squirrels here in my backyard...
