$25 for one button quail?!?

I say, tell the guy what you *are* willing to pay. People sometimes will overprice things because they see you want it, and they're actually willing to take something much less. Try something like this: "Wow, I was really not wanting to pay anything like that much. I'm not looking for show quality. Just ordinary pet quality. I would be willing to pay as much as (whatever your mid-level price is--don't actually name your top price)" and see what he says. Worst case, he says no. Best case, he accepts your offer. Acceptable case, he comes back with a counter offer that you can live with.

Can't hurt. Good luck!

$25.00 for a HEN is not bad at all. When you hatch out a batch, you get a bunch of males. I charge $20-50 a pair, if someone wants a hen, they will get the hen for the price of the pair. Supply and demand is one thing, but these are precious birds and deserve the righteous price.

Why is that such an outrageous price? I don't get it. Maybe I am just used to exotic bird prices.

*EDIT* Then again, button quail technically ARE exotic birds...

people are fuming about this? it isnt that crazy. think about the time that gentlemen put into them. the cost of incubators, feed, his time. maybe gas to meet you. i charge whatever i feel is right and some people may laugh in my face and some people may be shocked at what they can get them for from me. yes i think 25 for a single button is pricey however, your more than likely NOT going to find another breeder or anyone with adults in your area and thats WHY he CAN sell them for whatever he thinks is right. theres nothing wrong with it if you ask me. the guy wants some of his oney back for raising the little suckers. like quaillady said, they are "precious" if you will. not coturnix that are larger and messy these little guys can be a house pet. how much would you pay for a parakeet or a lovebird. my area parakeets go for 15-20 each and lovebirds can be anywhere from 20-100 depending on where they came from. these little birds are no different then those keets and lovebirds people pay so much for.

What about the color variety? Some are harder to get than others. Breeders have worked and spent thousands to accommodate these birds the right way. If you don't want to buy a high quality bird go to craigslist. Because I bet someone out there has some for free. I for one wouldn't give out what I have worked on for so many years without a price. You also need to respect the price. If you can't afford it, go to someone else. Because it is hurtful to post that the prices are outrageous when they are right on.
