This thread has turned out to be a learning experience.
I have raised small birds for years. And I do understand asking a price you feel is fair for what ever reasons. I had pure white Cockatiels that went for more than the common Grey. Makes sense. I also hand fed many a baby , so of coarse they went for more too.
And birds that are not parent raised, of coarse are more work, and quail definitely fall under that category.
Around here the most i've seen a Button go for is $10 and that was in a pet shop, so $25 surprised me.
The one I have was a 1 day chick when I got it. I haven't seen an adult sold around here in years. I have a variety of birds and am always checking ads.
These little birds are "Precious"! I fall in love all over again every time I look at mine.
Next month is our big bird sale/expo here in Tucson, I will be on the lookout for Buttons.
There are many, many quality breeders who sell birds on Craigslist. A fancy website is more of an endorsement of one's computor skills than the quality of the birds that they are selling. There are just as many unscrupulous breeders selling birds from these websites as there are selling on Craigslist. They just disguise it better.

OR THE BREEDER WILL CHANGE SPECES AND YOU'LL NOT HAVE ANY IN YOUR AREA.
KEEP IN MIND THERE ARE OVERHEAD CHARGES INVOLVED (NOT JUSTIFYING OR KNOCKING ANYONE'S PRICE FOR ANY REASON) THERE'S ALOT OF EXPENSE TO BREEDING AND KEEPING SOME SPECES, AND OF COURSE EVERYONE DOES THINGS DIFFERENTLY... ALEX DOES NOT REAR BIRDS LIKE I DO, THEREFORE HER "FAIR PRICE" MAY BE DIFFERENT THAN MINE.. NOT MAKING EXCUSES FOR ANYONE, JUST TRYING TO BRING ALL THE VARIABLES INTO LIGHT HERE. TAKE INTO ACCOUNT COSTS INVOLVED IN PROCURING EGGS, INCUBATING EGGS, REARING CHICKS, MAINTAINING BREEDERS, PENS, FEED, MEDICAL CARE, MATERIALS... AND THE LIST GOES ON FROM THERE... ALL OF THESE THINGS ARE GETTING MORE EXPENSIVE EACH WEEK.. THE BREEDER CANNOT ABSORB ALL THESE NEW EXPENSES AND THIS DRIVES THE PRICE OF THE FINAL PRODUCT UP. GOD JUST THE PRICE OF FEED ALONE HAS INCREASED 4 TO 5X'S THE COST IN THE LAST YEAR ALONE...
AS WELL THERE ARE ALSO SCOUNDRELS OUT THERE SIMPLY IN IT FOR THE BUCK...
EVEN IF YOU FIND A CHEAP MATE ELSEWHERE AND HAVE IT SHIPPED TO YOU THE COST WILL BE MORE THAN 25.00 FOR SHIPPING ALONE, NOT INCLUDING THE PRICE OF THE ANIMAL. AND YOU CAN BUY DOZENS OF EGGS FROM NOW TIL DOOMSDAY AND HAVE NO GUARENTEES OF EVER REARING A SUITABLE MATE FROM 1 OF THEM, LET ALONE ALL OF THEM... (IN FACT ID YOUR LUCK IS LIKE MINE EVERYSINGLE EGG WOULD HATCH AND ALL CHICKS WOULD SURVIVE TO ADULTHOOD ONLY TO BE 100% ROOS
