250 Chicks

Here are my chicks, I received them on Wed. morning and this is about 11:00 pm. Last night I discovered my first loss. Appeared to be a weak chick that just was trampled by the other chicks.

Wow!! 250!! I thought I was doing good with 50 at a time! Just curious....did you count them and did they send any extras?? I had only 1 loss upon arrival out of my 50.

That is a lot of birds! I only have 39 that I picked up this week, it was 40 but I lost one weak chick. It wasn't until my son pointed out that we have 80 chickens that I went

That is a whole lot more than 6 that I planned to start out with last spring!

I went home at lunch to get the chicks out of the boxes so I was rushed at the time. My plan is to track what I lose and count them when I put them out in their tractors.

Do you have a processor who will do the birds for you or are you set up to do it yourself?

I hire a mobile processor that comes right to the farm. I keep them in moveable tractors that I put in the pasture. I don't call it manure, it is fertilzer!

Tractors are the way to go for meat birds in my opinion.

Sure wish I had a mobile processor that I could call.
