250 Chicks

I have a small group of 26 and only 10 are CX . While three white laced red Cornish showed symptoms , it wasn't untill after a power outage dropped brooder temps too low that one actually developed a problem and it was immediately obvious . If they get capped off and can't poop they look awful sick . Since I'm free to keep a close eye on them , I cleaned it and one of the other and then ignored the messy down after that except for the worst one which I later scizzor clipped a ball off of . The clipping wasn't necessary but I just couldn't stand watching it walk around like that

. The CX that got a little loose did their unique " shake then power shoot " and stayed clean enough to avoid capping problems .
Back on topic . Those look very nice , as does your entire place . It makes a beautiful picture . Hope they continue to do well .

I have a question and it's probably a stupid one! You call those tractors?? How exactly do you move them with the chicks in there?? Do you just slowly move it around with them in it??

Thanks

It depends on how it is made but I know I have one that they go into as chicks for the day when they are young (before they go into the coop) and I move it when they are inside the roosting box area I lock them in and move it but others may not do this.

Yes, those are the tractors. I move them slow, but the birds catch on after about 3-4 days. Doesn't take very long to move them. I just pick up the front slightly and pull it forward. Usually when I just have to bump a chicken and it scampers forward.

Tomorrow is the day. We will process around 250 and have customers pick up about 195.

I will report the average weight after we are done.

My biggest problem was sun. I had one pen where I did not provide enough shade and lost 15 on that one day (they bunched up to get out of the sun and either had heart attacks or overheated).
