26 day old chicks arriving TUESDAY!

Hi

I’m using two 16 x 24 adjustable brooder heating plates. It’ll provide 95 degree heat at first and I can raise each week as needed until they no longer require.
I LOVE my brooder plates! (I have 2 also).

One thing I wanted to point out is they aren’t supposed to be used when room/barn temp is below 55 degrees or the chicks may not stay warm enough. Not sure how warm your brooder room is, but just making sure you knew that!

I did not know this. So glad I posted - and you graciously responded. Thank you.

I'm afraid I don't remember exactly what brand I have, and I'm sure the box is long lost. It's similar to this one:

It had removable "feet" (which are also probably lost), but I always mounted it on a wall. It was a good solution for small coops.

My favorite small-coop solution, though, was an outdoor cat heating pad. It was an off-brand one (and was only maybe $25) similar to this:

The chickens would sleep on the pad, but I never worried about fire because it wasn't warm enough to start one like a heat lamp might be.

Both the wall mounted plate and the heating pad were used in small coops that were not insulated and only had a few chickens in them. I don't think I used either in a brooder, but definitely used the wall plate once the chicks moved into their first coop.

Best wishes!
