And you need to make sure that they don't eat anything but what you are giving to them. This means you will need to keep them on concrete away from soil and grass. I guess you didn't check out my link posted. Ironically they did this kind of study in Germany, only it is not posted online and it was written in German so you would not believe me anyway.

wouldnt matter if it was in BOLD ENGLISH, she'd still find something

You are right she is ignoring the link to the data I've sent, and that is in English. Did you notice how she flipped out when I stated protein and that some argue it may be carbs. She flipped out completely. She just doesn't want to hear anything else and fights it to death. No point in having a decent discussion with her. This is getting funny in some aspect, because makes herself look like ........ Well, I let you fill in the blanks. LOL

Ummmmm heellloooooooo!

This is getting beyond rude. I had trouble finding anything you claimed I would find on a search. I simply asked for a direct link. Instead I get ridicule.

All that nonsense aside, I found an interesting paper.

"Waterfowl need protein for growth and development of new tissues. The percent composition of dry weight protein in plant matter is low, usually less than 15%, making it an inadequate protein source for ducklings (Baldassarre and Bolen 1994). Street (1977) showed that the rate of weight gain for ducklings decreased as the dry weight of dietary protein fell below 50%. Vegetative foods also lack required essential amino acids that cannot be synthesized by birds and are therefore only available via ingestion. Molting birds, hens, and ducklings cannot obtain the necessary protein and essential amino acids for growth and development from plants alone (Moyle 1961, Baldassarre and Bolen 1994).

To meet protein needs, both dabbling duckling (tribe Anatini; Mallard) and diving duckling (Aythyini; Bufflehead) diets almost exclusively include invertebrates during their first weeks of life. As they mature, dabbling ducklings begin to incorporate more plant material into their diets, until their diet consists mostly of plants (Chura 1961). Diving ducklings incorporate more seeds and vegetative material later in life, although aquatic invertebrates comprise the majority of food items selected throughout their life (Erskine 1972)."

We all know that what we are telling people no matter what wont hurt your birds but what wifezilla says well thats a definate maybe.

They're may not be studies that I have found but I know people who have had incedents. (perhaps it could be caused by carbohydrates?) I dont really care weather it's proven or not. I am not willing to risk harming one of my own ducklings to prove a point. My recomendation? mix in the oats. your babys health is too importaint to worry about whats fact and whats a myth.

fact...... all of us that started raising ducks years ago got angel wing until we learned the hard way that all we had to do was lower the protien(THIS IS WHY I HELP NEW DUCK PEOPLE, too bad somebody didnt tell me this( I HAD TO FIND IT OUT THE HARD WAY) THEN we didnt have the problem anymore ,except for Wifezilla

but AGAIN I say this, Ask anybody and I MEAN ANYBODY that sells or deals with lots of ducks and see what they tell you about protien and growing ducks.SO....would you listen to her or people that have done it for years and had far more ducks than she can imagine fact or myth?
