27 weeks and no eggs from Black Astralorp....

We have 6 hens that were about 23 weeks old when we got them, 2 of them are BA and I think they were the last two to start laying. I think they were closer to 28 weeks when they started laying, but they are now the largest eggs that we get and they do lay almost every day.

Well...some good news. Doodle, (our BA) just started squatting today (about 28 weeks)...so hopefully that means she'll be laying soon!

I promised some pics...so here they are:

Good news...Doodle finally laid her first egg on Saturday, making her 28 weeks old. I've had an egg from her every day since!

Here's a picture of our Astralorp, Piper. She just started squatting 4 days ago and does it every time I go out there. She still really tiny though I didn't think she was anywhere close to POL. Not only are her combs and wattles small but just her body size is small. Could it be that she sees our other girls "squatting" and thinks she should be doing it toooo? What do you guys think?

Well, I don't know about Piper...but my hens sisn't apepar to copy the squatting behavior. It even seemed to surprise them when they did it! It seems almost like a reflex where they can't help it.

Who knows lol! She's so tiny so I think shes just copying the other girls. She'll probably surprise us like our welsummer and lay sometime next week!

Thought she was going to lay today!!! She kept going in an out of nesting box... no egg though

I wonder if she'll have really tiny eggs?
