Hi,

I got my tank from a guy who sells both food grade and non-food grade containers. Mine had syrup and had been washed out but I still used my power washer and dish soap to clean it out good. After getting all the soap out I put about 50 gallons in and added several gallon of vinegar then rolled it around to remove any soap residue.

I haven't had it long enough to have any problem with mold inside the tank. My wife wants to add apple cider vinegar to the water so that may help with any gunk living inside the tank. BTW, don't add vinegar to metal water cans, they rust!

Seeing as the tank is in the greenhouse, I don't anticipate any problem with freezing. The daytime temp in the GH can reach 100 degrees and the water in the tank gets nice and warm. If you had one outside you could purchase a tank heater and I think that would keep it warm. I am a bit concerned about the waterer unit freezing so I have heat tape standing by if it freezes up.

The hoop house is new. We currently have 250 chicken in there and it seems to be working great! I am in the process of adding a fan to help manage the interior temp, (on sunny days it can reach 100 degrees) and humidity. Our plan is to raise the chicks over the winter and then move the chickens on pasture in the spring. We will then rototill the greenhouse and start planting in the sprig.

I will keep you posted on how it goes.
