Introducing my beautiful Ameraucana mix Millie. This little hen hen decided to go broody about two weeks ago. I figured she’d drop it cause she’s only 29 weeks old but she’s stuck to it and when I candled a few eggs they had obviously started to develop. My question is, is there a chance that her eggs will hatch? I candled 5 of her 12 eggs today and in every one I saw veins and a chick moving. Her eggs are still on the smaller side so I know there is a risk that there might not be enough room for the chick to develop well. But today is around day 14 and everything seems fine. I’ve never had a hen go broody and actually be somewhat successful so I guess I’m cautiously optimistic at the moment. I’ll just have to continue to wait and see what happens but I’d appreciate any feedback

Welcome! She is stunning! 🤩 I believe it can be done~

My Favorite hen, a 27 week old Silkie, has gone broody on me, she currently has 5 hatchable eggs under her and hasn't moved since being given them. I'll be candling them at 7 days (in 3 days) to see if any are developing.

If they are determined, and still come out to eat, drink, poop at least once a day then they should be great 🥰

She is so beautiful. I think they have a good chance to hatch. I hatched 2 of my pullets first year eggs and my incubator lost power for an unknown amount of time. I started with 4 eggs, one from each hen and 2 hatched so not bad with the difficulty i had. I say, give her the chance. If she is this dedicated all you can do is hope. ^_^
Thank you! That makes me feel a lot better about the eggs being from her first year of laying. It’s good to know that there’s a chance. I’ll just hope for the best and see what comes of it

Thank you! Your Silkie is so beautiful! I’m thrilled with how my hen is handling incubation. She gets off the nest every morning and other then losing a bit of weight she seems to be doing great. Hoping that you’re Silkie will do great too!

Since it's her first time broody, I'd keep an eye on her. Some hens sit eggs and are determined but as soon as the babies start hatching, they kill them all. My neighbor has a few hens that are like that. I had to watch one of my own birds for the same reaction when she sat for the first time because her dad was *very* baby aggressive.
