-2F (-19C) and the ducks are out + pics

I KNOW it went below 0F here last night, it was 7F when I came in for the last time. Thankfulyl They had a couple heat lights in the coop and i moved everyone in together.... crowded but warmer!! My new drake, Greg, was even shivering last night it was so cold.

They are all alive & well this morning & i felt way better putting the lamps in there.

The bunny did survive without heat last night. I moved her into the empty chick brooder with blankets though!

The is actually a white Saxony. The used Pekins to develop Saxonies and once in a while you end up with a white one. I will have to have her and one girl sleep separately when I offer hatching eggs. I will just fence off a part in the duck house, so they are still close together with the rest of the group. The drake and one hen is from a one hatch and they are one month older. The other girls are from a separate hatch and different line. I did rehome all the drakes from that line to another breeder with a strain of hens from Holderread. So when I have hatching eggs they will not be related. The boy only had his first male plumage, and he should look nicer with his next molt. He is very handsome already. The girls are pretty too.

I'm glad to hear everyone survived the night! Our ducks were fine and so were the chickens. Even with the 250w infrared on in the chicken coop, their water still froze. Ducks popped out this AM doing their wing-flapping thing. It was COLD!!! 4F my son just informed me. They ate and drank, looked around and then said to heck with this cold/snow and went back into their duck house. The pool is still frozen solid, so the weather has totally messed up their routine. My son tried tried to break it up, but this time it's not happening. They'll just have to wait until it thaws here, which I understand should be tomorrow.....please please please. Chickens just huddled back into their cuddle box after drinking and eating as well. They're sick of this weather too! Frankly, so am I!

We are off back east to see family for Thanksgiving tomorrow. Didn't want to travel today as it will be soooooooo crazy at the airport, so turkey dinner is postponed until Friday. Glad this cold snap happened while we were still here. Our neighbours are taking care of the menagerie for us and while they are super diligent, I would have been freaking out if we hadn't been here.

A wonderful, WARMER (for those of us freezing our butts off) and Happy Thanksgiving to all!

Wow, pretty impressive.

I wouldn't want to live in it, but seeing something like that happen here once every few years would be nice.

I can definitely say unless the poles change, I will never get to see that happen in my town.
