hi all ,
As you probably noticed am I caught up into a new adventure , an experience I strongly belief we all should get (with a hen or without ) .
So I am blessed with a full box of eggs , ofcourse being fertile ( and some not ) , now the issue here is the next :
I have no hen to sit on the eggs , one got sort of broody of , one passed away today ...
My question to start with so ;
first of all I did own an incubator yet today I tested him and he seems to be somehow broken , tried to fix it but no , so here is the thing , back in some time people did not have machines to hatch , but used several ways too without a hen , I own some old glass things to hatch reptile eggs ( the upper part contains a stroke of glass with wholes for the eggs , where under is a water part and a heater , up that empty space for the eggs ofcourse and two pieces of glass to change with one piece of wire for a lamp .
I would still like to hatch the eggs and do a DIY incubator BUT I work with ceramic heatlamps and no lightbulbs , so the question to the experts here
:
is it good enough to use an old thing ( looking like an aquarium ) with a ceramic heatlamp(protected with wire ) of 60 watts ?
If so , should I hang the ceramic heater UP or IN ??
Secondly , can I leave it open with some wire on or does it have to be closed ??
P.S. : humidity and temperature are constant thanks to a thermostat that keeps working when the power would fall out ( has spare batteries ) , humidity is my job for a big part so is good no matter how it has to be done .
I'm totally new in this but I'd still like to give this a try ,
all input appreciated , ty .
