you can cut back on the super (%) in the saline if you are worried, but the action of squirting the wound with the dish detergent bottle will help get rid of the yellow stringy staph that lingers around wounds like that. The article stated it acted as a germicide (used the word germinal), really if you can afford it, chlorhexidine in the form of Nolvasan solution is probably pretty good. What I don't like is it has a soapy residue to it. I was just amazed at the power of something that cost me pennys.
I can't see how it would poison the chicken(iodine solution might kill the hen...), whatever, it was an idea to keep the area moist to promote healing and help reduce the bacteria. I still think it is a really good idea.

Hang in there Inn, hopefully the next stitches will hold better.

Not to get off subject... but I just read your byline, and got a laugh. Would love to see a pic of that! I wish I knew about the DNA testing for breeds before my best pal passed away a year ago. We never knew for sure what he was, but he was the best dog ever.


Sigh, the things we do for our pets! We will get another stitch(es) in her somehow....​

Hey all! Just updating on Skittles. We got her out today and turned out she has the first stitch still and we don't know where the material was coming from yesterday. But we cleaned her up and attemped a second stitch though the material was too delicate and another one wouldn't take. So for now she has one stitch and is covered with ointment and telfa pad w/ vet wrap. We made it a science lab for our kids to learn. And we learned a lot!

Don't know if she will make it 100% yet or not... but I think we are done with any stitching and such.

...I do not trust those tests at all....my friend has an 80 or so lb dog that looks like he is purebred golden retriever (field type...leggy), but has short hair.........test said he was golden x maltese.......where in God's name do you get a short haired dog out of a maltese and a golden retriever????....besides the fact that there is NOTHING in this dog's appearance to in any way suggest maltese at all......period. So after hearing the results of that test I've decided to put no real weight on the results of them.​

Just a thought...but, I wonder if there are two holes. Either both fangs top and bottom when the dog bit the crop.

That may be why it is still leaking. Just a thought that popped in my head, so I hopped on here to post it. Hope she is doing well!

Had a great idea I think we will all agree on! My pheasant was ripped to shreds last night and there is not much to stitch. Then I remembered Alu-Shield. I disinfected the wound first with a bactine type product and sprayed the back of the neck and exposed leg tissue with Alu-Shield. It is available at tractor supply and creates and barrier to germs where there is no skin.
