50 foot rolls of 5' tall 2" chicken wire is like 20 bucks out here!
.

No, no, for the 1/2 inch. :-D

Yeah, I can't really afford $150+ for this stuff. Shipping is ridiculous and the wire itself is pretty expensive. I'm getting frustrated.

Aw. Don't get frustrated! I know it seems like a lot, but its a good investment. That stuff lasts forever, so if you think of its amortized cost, its next to nothing.

I think its costly... I can buy it here for 3$ a foot for 36" tall hardware cloth 1/2 by 1/2 inch I couldn't afford to do my run in it either. We are going to use 2x4 non walkover fencing but I lock my chickens up at night. I didn't feel the chicken wire I could find was strong enough to keep a dog out (or a bunch of kids for that matter) I have a 100lb lab and 5 kids (and their friends) so I wanted something strong, but I just can't afford the hardware cloth the size of my run at 6 feet tall it would cost 600$ to do the run

Ebony,

my runs are 8 X 12 too, and according to my calculations, you only need 40 feet of wire at the desired height.

there are two 8' sides and two 12' sides,
8, 8, 12, 12 = 40.

We used 2" X 4" welded wire with chicken wire on the inside of the run.
We get 100' rolls for around $70 at Builder's Discount Center.
