What do you think? I got this one a week ago and he/she's feathering out a little slower than her brooder buddy, also an EE. "She's" also smaller than the other one, but has a slightly bigger comb. I was told she was a girl. And a purebred Ameraucana (*sigh*).

I agree it's too early. But if I had to guess, based on comb height and colors feathering in, I'd say boy.

ETA: I've got a 50/50 shot, right?

I agree it is to early to tell for sure. But If you only have two chicks and are new to a breed (pure or not), then it can be hard to compare. Because chickens can be tricky, every pullet/cockerel don't always grow exactly the same or at the same rate. From the pics it does not seem to have a very red comb, feathers look girlish to me. I'm going to guess pullet, but not ruling out that it could be a boy. As for whether it is pure or not I have no idea. I have a EE pullet that looked almost like yours she just had more light brown on her neck.

Thanks everyone. I'm going to give it a little more time so I can be certain of its gender. What really bugs me about this is that the man who sold them to me 1. assured me and the other buyers that all his chicks were sexed to be females (even though I saw 3 very obviously male BRs in the brooder at his place). I understand that there's a 10% chance that it may not be a girl, but this guy didn't inspire a lot of confidence and 2. he's the president of a poultry association and should've known better than to sell these as purebred. I don't mind getting EEs at all-I just hate when people try to mislead others for profit.

Anywhoo, sorry I had to vent. I'm crossing my fingers that its a girl and I don't have to go back to him to exchange for another chick...that may turn out to be a boy too.
