3.5-year Red Star hen; no appetite and runny poop. Tube-feed?

My last line said :
" I won't write any of them off until they decide to quit."
You must have missed that to go on and on
Different take on what "THEY gave up" means I guess.. lost translation.. NO I didn't miss it.. it was what I focused on. I was trying to be clear about that and it was the whole point in my sharing towards the community and not (intentionally) directed at you personally. As guardians sometimes we are the ones who have to decide what OUR limits are and so I included tools that might be useful to individuals for their consideration should they face the question of euthanasia.

Anyways.. respect, peace, fulfillment be yours. NO hard feeling on MY part or need to discuss anything personal further because life is too short.. I try to learn from EVERY post.. including the stupid ones I make!

Thanks for being part of the journey! NO stupid emoji to express surface kindness, concern, humility, etc.. People take what they want according to their perspective/perception.

I appreciate all your input.

Star was vaccinated for Marek's disease as a day-old chick. That suggestion led me down the rabbit hole of "avian leukosis" -- scary stuff. I wish these things were easier to diagnose.
Vaccine HIDES the symptoms AT best IF stored correctly, given correctly, established correctly, and so on.. It is also not 100% effective EVEN under ideal conditions.. see link for accurate and continually updated information..

Marek's Virus FAQ

Never presume anything as there aren't many guarantees. IF it is her time and you decide to have a necropsy done, (I probably wouldn't at this age with given genetics, but that's ME)

I too wish things were easier to diagnose.. without using dissection, necropsy, blood testing, microscopic slides with brain tissue.. etc. Check out this excellent resource..

Avian Disease Manual 7th Edition

It's too early for the information but make note for future reference IF you decide to see what is afflicting her when her time arrives.. Link is to state poultry labs contact info where necropsy is often free or affordable to back yard keepers..
