3-6month emu how to tame

I recently bought an EMU that's like 3–6 months old, and I’m just curious on how I can get him to like me more because whenever I go into the room, he always starts breathing heavily. (I’ve been trying to sit in the same room as him to make him get used to me, but it hasn’t worked so far.) I have had him for a week now, so if anyone has any tips on how I can improve my relationship with him, I would appreciate them a lot! And I also put a chicken near him for company.

I'm crook with a cold. Will add detail later this week. But:

spend time with it. Sit low. Sit still still still. Talk to it.

Get little treats like dried grapes. Hold them in one hand. Use your thumb to flick them at the chick -- movement spooks them most of all. So only your thumb moves as you launch the tidbit.
