3 Blue/Black/Splash Orpington Eggs - 100% hatch :D Photos

If I am lucky there will be more than the 1 blue.

blue x blue does not = all blues - the genetics of blue is a cr @p shoot in predictability.

Blue x Blue = 25% Black (without the blue gene) 50% Blue 25% splash

Black x Blue = 50% Black 50% Blue

Black x Splash = 100% Blue

Blue x Splash = 50% Blue 50% Splash

Splash x Splash = 100% Splash

30 mins ago I went to look in the bator. This is what I saw.

Something told me to go look again. I had already said I wasn't going to look again before 4pm - but I went anyway.

This is what I saw -

This one was looking up at me like "Oh, it's you again." LOL

This is the cleanest, most tidy, less messy quick hatch I have ever experienced. There isn't any mess at all in the bator - just some little pieces of shell scattered and the main shell bodies and lids.

1 blue and maybe 2 splashes!

Finally 100% hatch!

Hatching your own eggs makes a world of difference doesn't it?! I'll be glad when I'm to the point that I don't have to order shipped eggs except when I want to add a little new blood. I'm almost, but not quite there yet. I need to add some new Marans blood this fall yet.

Before anyone screams at me - I already know - but this was a fertility experiment. I had no idea they would hatch and be healthy babies.

I've hatched quit a few of my Marans pullet's eggs and always had good results so I'm not gonna hollar at you.

And there's nothing more satisfying that a clean-as-a-whistle hatch, is there?
