3 Buff Orpingtons in NC need a home

Bob, I already picked them up in July. Turns out they were white rocks but really pretty girls. I'm in aberdeen- do you know of where we can get chickens around here? I got chicks at tractor supply and now have two roosters :(

Getting chickens around here has been like pulling teeth for us

... I'm about ready to call quits and create a burn pile (coop). There are several telephone numbers and advertisers who mean well, but we get really nice apologies saying "sorry, sorry, sorry".

I think I would have to order online - but thats too expensive. I have heard quite a few stories like yours. One lady got hens that she bought at auction that were no longer laying and had diseases (beginner too). I have neighbors, so I would eat the roosters - personally.

I don't even have chickens yet, and its already testing our patience. Good luck.

The best thing to do is to wait until spring. That's when everyone hatches or sells their fall pullets that have started laying. in what part of nc do you live? facebook has really good chicken swap pages (Lots of nc chicken keepers on there) you could find someone in your town/city easier.

My best advise is to make sure you know everything about chickens like breeds, prices, and how to identify visible health issues. One time someone went to a swap to buy me a few chickens as a gift but they were not the best quality and they had scaly dust mites on their legs. If i had been there i would have known they were not very good.

Thanks. I need a chicken farm friend to show me the ropes so I know what I'm looking for.....but I have an announcement - as of 5p.m. we have our first six CHICKENS

3 buffs, 2 cochins and one mix of the two - nice. One problem though. Two are pullets or slightly younger than the adults and they are getting picked on. This is their first night at our coop. We are really happy.

I wonder how longer we must keep them penned up before they realize they live here so we can let them out every day. Any suggestions or insight to get them to stay home now. They will be egg layers. We already named two and the kids love'm. We got so lucky!!!

Congrats! I was getting on here to tell you to check craigslist- I'm getting 4 Easter eggers I found on there I can't wait!! :)

But sorry I can't help with your question- I keep mine in a 10ft by 20ft chain link run because I'm worried my dogs will get them. Good luck though!! So exciting :)

Wow, I hope your dogs come around. That would be catastrophic. Thanks a lot for the craigslist idea because it worked. I did not find chocolate orpingtons like I am looking for, but we found six beautiful cochins (2 barred, 3 buff and 1 mix). They are great - thanks to you. Good luck with your girls and dog. Take care.

- Bob
