my new speckled sussex had a pasty butt when we brought her home yesterday. we cleaned it off, but not all of the poop on the outlying feathers. she was acting fine-eating, drinking, spunky. we left the house for five hours, and came home to find her with a very pink and very inflamed rear end devoid of feathers. it looks like she is straining to poop all the time. she's pecking at it often. but she's still pooping, although it's watery. the store recommended putting preparation h on her vent area, but it doesn't seem to be doing much. is it okay to put neosporin or another antibiotic ointment on/around her vent? the entire area is quite red and inflamed. i don't know how to give her relief so she'll stop pecking at it. suggestions?
