So this chick is a large fowl cochins. It was hatched about 2-3 days ago and I noticed yesterday it was kinda strange and today I realized it was splay legged. So I made a hobble. My question is does this look right and how successful is this usually? And how long do I leave her like this? I have Never had this happen before. [Btw I moved her by herself because the other younger chicks we knocking her over] thanks in advance.

I'm sorry no one with experience doing this has answered your thread yet.
It looks good to me. I'd check her feet frequently for the slightest sign of swelling and remove the hobble if you see it.
Is she walking well with the hobble?
I would leave it on for 3 days or so then remove it to see how she does.

Thank you. Yeah I usually get responses not sure why I didnt with that post but sadly we had to put her down. She ended up with what looked like wry neck on top of the feet. She wasnt eating or drinking and was constantly peeping. I felt so bad. I couldnt let her suffer any more. So sad but I know it was the right thing to do for her. Thank you for your response I really wish the hobble would have worked but it didnt. Poor little girl. :( thanks again

I've been there, too, Klomax, and know what it feels like ... the best we can do for them is our best and sometimes that's just not enough and we have to let them go....

For what it's worth I think you made the right call, too.
