Hi everyone!

So I tried to hatch two guineafowl eggs. Unfortunately one didn't hatch and one hatched but seems too small. Hatched normally at like day 30. The thing is the pictures I posted is the keet at 3 days old. It has spraddle leg so I put a rubber band on the legs to help it. Walking better now and have been giving it egg yolk to feed it. Has been eating much better too but it's still very small. Is it a lost cause? It sucks because I don't want to let it die and it seems like it has been getting better. What can I do to help her? Is there anything that can be done? Hand is there for size comparison. I have medium sized hands.

Keets are small, yours looks normal sized to me.

Hard boil the egg, peel and discard the shell, crumble the whole egg and feed all of the egg, not just the yolk. They get more nutrition from a cooked egg than they get from raw eggs. Digesting the egg is not the same as absorbing the egg while they are hatching.

If possible, find it more keets for companions.

Guineas are flock birds and do best in large groups.

Feed it a high protein turkey or game bird starter.

Have a look at this thread if you like - it may just help a little to give you a bit of perspective of your keet's size?

Pictures of Development Stages of keets

On post #14 of the linked thread is a collage and its first picture shows a keet at two days old. This picture also has a hand in it much like your picture, but I need you to know that I have long very narrow fingers which I think maybe are unlike your fingers? If so, then your keet looks normal size to me too by comparison.

Please keep us updated as to your keet's progress, and I am wishing you all the best with it.

Ok will do. Just boiled eggs now and they are cooling down. Thanks for the advice!

Awesome. This is great. Still really small after several days. Eating and waking better but the size is small. Has pasty butt now too

Sorry for the pasty butt. Hope that clears up soon.
I've been cleaning it but any ideas how else to fix it? Personally I don't think it's going to make it but I'll keep trying until it either starts growing or passes away. Giving it a chance at life.

Keeping it too warm can contribute to pasty butt. I start keets at 90°F measured at the bedding level. The brooder needs to be big enough that there is the heated zone and a cool zone. I keep the feed and water in the cool zone.
