I honestly don’t know yet. Our chicks will be arriving in 3 weeks. So we have not been through a summer season with them yet. I’m from California, so I referred to Cindy’s expertise, after we made the decision to have her build our coop.Hi, I'm in Lutz and looked at her coops but am building my own. I keep going back and forth between an open coop like hers or a closed coop. Tell me your thoughts.
It makes sense to me that an open coop would work very well here in Florida, just because of any place that is contained outside (my tool/garden shed is a good example), keeps a lot of heat & condensation, when it’s humid & hot.
I saw a woman in Texas post on this forum. Her husband made a open, but also semi-closed (roost area) coop. I found that really interesting. You might like to see that & possibly make a hybrid, like she did. I’ll find that thread & post it here for you. She also used bamboo shade curtains, which I’m certain I’ll be integrating into my coop setup.
