Hello everyone! We are getting into chickens and have 3 bantam chicks we got from the local feed store. They are just 7 weeks old. If you could help tell me what they are, I would be grateful!!

First, we are pretty certain this one is a silkie, but wondered how we will tell the gender of it?

Now we get into the ones we aren't sure of! The next is feather footed (in case it doesn't show good in the photo). It keeps morphing on us, wondering what your thoughts are?

Last was very white when we got as a chick, but has an almost golden head now. The silkie is actually much whiter than this one now! It is clean footed, and a bit smaller than the other 2, although we got it only 2 days later.

Can you hep? We are only allowed to have 3 chickens in city limits, and I am not allowed any roosters. This is a 4H project for my children, and they are anxious as to what gender they might be. Hoping for hens, but know it is the luck of the egg. :)

THanks everyone... Looking forward to your replies!

2nd appears to be a cockrel because of the early Crest, 3 I'm guessing is a pullet breeds not sure on 1 is definitely a silkie

First is a silkie, I don't know much of the breed so I can't say whether its a pullet or cockerel.
Second is a Mille fleur d'uccle. Probably a pullet because my d'uccle cockerels had pretty noticibly combs at that age.
The last one is definitely a pullet. I have the same chick and I'm still trying to figure out what she is. What color are her legs? I'm thinking white OEG. I tried searching for it but I wasn't having any luck on her breed for either of our chicks.

Yeah, we had read that silkies were hard to tell the gender of. I just wanted to see if those in the know would know more :)

I had suspected it was a mille fluer d'uccle, but wanted some confirmation. Sweet chicken, was hoping it was a girl!

OEG, huh? It has light orange legs. Like I said it is the smallest of the 3, and by far the easiest to handle.

I am kind of falling in love with them, they make me smile on a daily basis.

Thanks for your answers... will update pics as they get older :)

BTW.. my profile pic? Is a pic of them when they were only a few days old!

These are my chicks at 8 weeks old. Any thoughts now on gender? The silkie is a given. Still think the brown is a Mille Fleur D'uccle and the small white an OEG?
