Would you believe the Brinsea Octagon 20 eco thermometer that says 100
the accurite that says 95 46%
or the springfield that says 97 40%?????

Just put the eggs in and thought I'd check with two other thermometer/hygrometers and this is a BIG difference.

You'll find that to be pretty common.

I had four different thermo readings in my last batch (two internal egg temps, two incubator temps) - and as you can see they all registered differently. As long as they average to where they should be, it should be OK.

I am having that happen right now. I just posted about it yesterday. I bought 7 new thermometer/hygrometers because I haven't had to get new ones in a long time. I bought two of each to check them against each other and get a feel for which ones I liked better (one of them, we only bought one of).

Every single one of them has a different temperature. I am not talking off by a little tiny bit. I am talking off by as much as 5 degrees. It is frustrating, but just proves the need to spend the money on decent ones. I am going to go back to using Brinsea thermometers or good quality mercury thermometers (which I suspect are more accurate and they are certainly easier to calibrate).

Are these thermometers sitting in the same spot in the incubator? Take them out and put them on your kitchen counter and see if they still read differently? I found that I got different temps depending on how much air was able to get to the sensor on the thermometer, or if I set them near something that would be acting as a heat sink, such as a bottle of water. Air temp, and the temp of things in the incubator are not going to all be the same. At least not at first.

You can calibrate your hygrometers and then you will know exactly how much they are off.
Here are the directions.

Once you find out how much they are off you can just add or subtract that amount from the reading it gives you in your incubator and you will know what the humidity is in there.
