3 different temps... 3 different thermometers... what to believe?

So is this a thermometer designed to read human basal temps? I tried a digital under-the-tongue model and wasn't happy with the results.

Oh, and welcome to BYC if you haven't already been welcomed! You sound very Sciency and I look forward to your input!

After just 1 1/2 hours the 2 newly added candy therm. & the food temp. therm. are registering @ just under 100*F also...
We'll see where they all are tomorrow morning. I'm trusting these because they are my soap making thermometers and have done well for me for years.

I am just trusting my Brinsea thermometer in mine. I have my first incubation in progress and out of 17 shipped eggs I have 14 developing on day 11. It seems to be ok so far

The Brinsea Spot check is great and is not a large investment. I have basically the same model incubator (mine is the Advance) and I have noticed that even though they are forced air incubators, the temp up where the thermometer in the digital models is warmer than down by the eggs. I think the plastic "top" with the vent holes that they put between the eggs and the fan so the chicks can't touch the fan effects the air flow. I put the spot check probe through my vent hole and down at the top of the eggs. Then I set the temperature so that down at the tops of the eggs is 99.5. Good luck with your hatch.

I have the Brinsea Oct Eco 20 w/turner... My second hatch ever went in to lockdown yesterday.
I struggled with the same issue with my first hatch as well. Different readings from different thermos.
I decided to trust the built in one and had a 70% hatch rate from the ones that made it to lockdown. (24 of 29 shipped - 17 hatched)
These were shipped eggs from Washington State to Maine.

Right now, second hatch, 23/28 have made lockdown. I say trust the built in!

Weird Note:
I got the Brinsea Spot Check near the end of my first hatch. When getting the 'bator ready for my second hatch the spot check was in agreement with the built in.
After adding eggs and starting the incubation, the Brinsea Spot Check no longer jibes with the built in. (sticking spot check through the air vent)...
Once again, I have chosen to trust the built in. In 48hrs +/- I'll know the results...

I have 4 thermometers in my incubator right now. Its a home made circulated air jobbie and I have a small port and vent on the right. I was getting about 1.3 degree lower temp on the thermometer on the right side which happens to be the most expensive and trustworthy thermometer by far. I put a second thermometer on top of it and it also showed a 1-1.5 degree drop. I tweeked air venting on the right and with no other change the temp normalized and no more 'cold' spot. The vent opening is about 1/2 inch so its pretty small. So a really minor change in air flow may make a big difference in temp readings. I wonder if your Spot Check has a draft coming down the wiring causing a low temp reading?

Good theory, but the temp it reads is actually higher... I do believe it has something to do with air flow between the eggs etc...

I was wondering how these were doing for you today? Still holding steady?
