Hi! More eggs than I know what to do with and would like to start selling but have a couple questions first

1. My eggs are fertile. From what I hear, most people don't care but some do. So do I warn people that some could be fertile or only tell them if they ask?

2. How much do y'all sell your eggs for? Not sure what a good starting price is. My chickens are free range in my back yard that's a couple of acres

3. What kind if sign do you have out? I was thinking maybe "fresh eggs for sale $X please honk" or something because I want to avoid strangers coming into the yard where my dogs could be an issue. And how should I let people know when I'm out of eggs? Maybe put "out of eggs, come back tomorrow" on the back of the sign so I can flip it?

Thank you so much!

As far as pricing goes you should so some research. Look at what the grocery store charges for brown eggs. I suggest checking with your state for specific rules and regulations as far as selling. We just sell ours to friends and family so we get by without the red tape. But your state may require many things like a business license

Oooooh okay. This is exactly why I wanted to check with people who know what they're doing before I tried it.... Lol I live in central Texas

Sooooo, anyone know the Texas rules by chance? Lol
If you are labeling your eggs 'ungraded' and selling to a person (not for resale)from your home you don't need anything.

If you want to sell from say a farmers market you need a permit.

Thats odd! I live in indiana and you do not need a permit for farmers markets. Our laws just say that everything needs to be clearly labeled and have your farm name and contact information. If we had a U Pick type of situation we would need business insurance in case someone gets hurt on our property. As for now we are just dodging the red tape while doing research. We have a very small operation but plan for future expansion.

As for the OP I would visit your states website and look up the laws to cover your booty. They might have specific laws regarding the labeling like my state does.

Here is Texas's info for selling at a farmers market.
