Here are some links to other threads about Sapphire Gems and issues when they start laying.
I joined BYC last month to ask about my own Sapphire Gem who laid a normal hard shelled egg & a double softie on the same day.
It seems to be quite common with the breed since yours is the 4th one I've heard of in the last month including my own.
My Sapphire Gem is doing very well now & hasn't had any more softies after her first week or so of laying.
