3 feet tall rooster breed?

There is a breed of chickens from South America called Indio Gigante that can get 3ft tall. They were bred from Malays.

the australian game was supposed to have hit some very tall heights. i have no idea whether they were tall stories or not, i just don't know. i have been trying to develop them in black with lots of size however this could take many years and this sort of bird needs plenty of room and deep pockets. part of their makeup was malay game which in my idea in early days malay game refered to many oriental game breeds like the big shamos. it was originally bred for fighting but when fighting was banned in australia they became highly regarded as a farm fowl that produced meat and could drink out of a cattle trough. they were well represented at poultry shows pre WW II but with commercial production of meat chickens they declined drastically in numbers. interest is starting to grow in the breed again with the renewed interest in keeping poultry but it seems they have lost that size and vigour due to lack of long term breeders who know what they are doing, the use of vaccines and lack of chicken hatching numbers also brings them down. ignorance in breeding poultry is the main probelm i think and the interpreation of the standard with limited published info of them from the early days...especially photos.

here is a cockerel i bred a couple of years ago. i only bred one chicken from him as when i showed him as a ckl i was told he had split wings and to cull him (we ate him). i have since found that ckls of these big breeds appear to have split wings when young but grow out of it.

mine can get around 85-90cm, and they weigh about 5kg

I should say right up front that my chickens are pets so I totally get the keeping them just for the fun of it thing. AND I love anything that is unusual or just a little bit 'off'. But, I've got to ask - what was this breed developed for? Just for unusual looks? It seems like there is a LOT of 'un-usable' bird there if it was a meat breed.

What I read about the Indio Gigante was they were trying to create a dual purpose meat and egg bird. They crossed Malays with Barred rocks and other type layer breeds to have size and increased egg production better than the malays. They are a big bird around 12+ pounds. They are mostly breeding them for meat birds. You can look the webpage up at indiogigante.com if you have a translater on your computer. I myself wished I had some of these birds. I like the prehistoric look of them.

As for the point of it all, I guess it'd be why I want one: I have teeny-tiny lil chickens (Mini Banties). and my main flock is Ameracauna and EE/OE hens and Roos, but I love Sebrights, and all other oddities. I love the idea of having a 3 feet tall Roo.

Man, that bird (was it Mr Big?) is one mean-looking Roo! He has a cool face. I'd have kept him just for that mean look in his eyes. GOTTA be one to scare off SOMEthing!
