3 HEALTHY BABIES from DDD eggs LAST POST 1/6/08

Come on out and play little ones!!
Amy wants to meetcha!

My hatch for this week is almost finished and it's just Day 20. I still have 2 Am's and a JG that pipped and are just sitting and waggling their beaks when I talk to them. Come on out slowpokes!

I could go take pics of the Frizzle chicks in the brooders here for you (just to get you by til yours are out).

Good Luck!

WEll...I have one out and a pip at 8pm last night and another pip between midnight and 6am this morning.

The one that is out, I helped. I had to, couldn't let it die. It had been pipped for 12 hours (I know, not supposed to intervene for 24 hours), but up to that point, it had been steadily active and very talkative anytime I talked to it. It had all but quit moving and chirping. There was no way I was going to let it die. This is the one that was so active every time I candled it. So, I helped it out. It's beautiful, black skin(one pink spot on a shoulder) and light yellow down. It hates the dark (just as when candling). When the light is off in the bator, I keep a flashlight on top of the window. lol
It's name is "Tuff".

The 2nd pip. Was going gangbusters when it pipped. STarted trying to zip immediately. This am at 6, just a hole in the shell about the size a little larger than a kernal of corn. I can see inside and the membrane has dried and pulled away from the inside of the shell and is constricting around it's beak. I'm watching this one. It's been 12 hours....watching watching.

Third pip. Just a very tiny hole so far. Not vocal, but some movement.

These eggs, though. As I told on another post, I candled rather roughly. I wasn't aware not to turn them around end to end. I'm worried that the rough handling while candling may have messed up membranes or otherwise. I know now just how to candle without turning abruptly. Sorry little babies

If I have to help them all out, I will. I can't bear to think of losing one of these babies, my first hatch.

Have 2 left to pip now.

Will post photos in a few hours.

Second pip just hatched!!!! Pink skin, so far yellow down.

Tuff, it's down has ended up being almost a platinum color. Not white, but not yellow....almost platinum/silver!!!

Now waiting on the 3rd pip and the other 2 eggs to pip.

Tuff is noticably smaller than the 2nd one to hatch, as well. Tuff is so tiny!

DH is sleeping because he works tonight. As soon as he wakes, I'll download the pics and post some here.

Ok. We're done with this hatch.

Three gorgeous babies!!

I candled the last 2 eggs. I had a bad feeling on these, so pulled them before day 25. One quit while yolk was still pretty liquid (how did I miss this when I candled last??) The Silkie feathered green egg layer. OMG I was just about in tears. It must have quit around the time I moved it to the hatcher. Chick was fully formed but yolk was never absorbed.

Chick looked to have been gone for a couple of days.

Looks like it was a splash, too

Now, I started with 13 eggs in this group. I learned alot with this being my first hatch. I blame myself for most of the losses. There were 4 (if I remember correctly without going back and looking at posts) that were clear. All the others, I am pretty sure I at least contributed to the lack of success with.

We have more of Lisa's eggs in the bator (BTW I am using a MissPrissy Bator that I have split in half. One side is bator, the other is the hatcher). They are due on the 9th of January to hatch.

Here's photos of our new babies!
