Hello, dear fellows henlovers!
Yesterday morning, I checked my little hencoop for new eggs. There were none. Then I added some fresh straw and, after saying hello to Olga, Julie and Harriet, I went away.
In the early afternoon, I went to sit in the sun and admire my girls Then, when I went away again, I checked the coop. There were 4 eggs! Is it possible, or must I buy a pair of glasses? (Or stop sitting in the sun?)

It's not sitting in the sun that is the problem, it's what you are drinking while sitting there.

But getting serious, you added fresh straw. Was one covered up that they uncovered when scratching around on the nest to arrange the straw? That has been known to happen.

How did the eggs look? It is possible that one of the hens released two yolks in one day to form two eggs. If those yolks are released about the same time you can get a double yolked egg. If they are released further apart you can get two separate eggs in the same day. When that happens the second egg is often thin shelled as she does not make enough shell material to cover two eggs in one day. The same thing can happen to color if it is a brown or green egg, she may not make enough pigment for two eggs so one is lighter. Since two eggs would be in the shell gland at the same time you may see marks or distortions where the shells were pressed together as they formed.

Something like this is more likely to happen when they are just starting to lay but it can happen to any hen of any age at any time. If it is an occasional glitch I don't consider it to be a big deal. We are all entitled to an occasional oops. If it becomes consistent get back with us.

Welcome to the forum, by the way. Glad you joined!
