Finding out that quails have prejudices and preferences has been the part of raising them that makes me want to quit. I currently have 15 birds in 4 different cages, including an isolated bird injured by a male that only likes the ones that look like him. I'll be able to rearrange them after culling, but it's exhausting.

all I know is that it seems like I could add more but its so hard to add to an existing flock and when a bird gets beat up it causes major stress on my wife that its just not worth 2 more eggs. I have 6 10 square pens and have one with 3 and another with 4 just because they all get along so well I don't want to mess with it. Most I have in one pen is 7 and they were all born in the same hatch

Well I did use your method of apple cider vinegar mixed with water to integrate some of my flock. Worked pretty well.

It is exhausting... but all animals got their pro and contras.
Even dogs will cause problems, if you are unlucky.

The more individuals you got, the more possibilities of problems rise.

And yes, ... these little creatures can be real raptors. I now surely know, that birds came from the dinosaurs.

But heads up ... there are also good moments.
For me, hatching is always a highlight.

I've watched that several time and am glad to hear that it worked. I haven't tried it yet as I wouldn't dare this time of year. 19 degrees this morning. Defiantly plan to give it a try come warmer weather in the spring. Can you tell me how much you sprayed with?

I always use the vinegar method, I do half vinegar half water, and mist the birds back and chest, I mist every bird and all over the pen.

Funny, I thought you were NY Corturnix from YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCaIUAGCGauCvEO5h0iIKs3w) I added some, maybe a tablespoon or so to a spry bottle filled with water. I saw it in one of Kenny's videos, but can't find it now.

Update: a week later. After thinning the flock, the egg production is back up to where it used to be, 8-9 eggs a day. I guess the 3 that were culled were not laying and causing stress to everyone else. I was also able to get everyone back on 30% protein food, as it has not been easy to find around where I live. Evidently this pandemic has caused many new bird owners and keepers.....supplies are starting to come back a bit, so let's hope they don't try and lock things down again.
