I have three rouen males, Huey, Dewey and Louie. They are around a year, maybe a little younger. They are always biting on each other, they never hurt each other really, but they will grab mouthfuls of each other's head or neck feathers and yank, they never pull out feathers, though. They look like little teenagers fighting. Is that normal for them? I've had ducks for about a year, I started with 2 females and a male. A buff and rouen female, and rouen male. My male died from what I believe was flip over disease. It sucked. He had insurance, which is how I know have the 3 boys. I also just got 4 more females, because I know the ratio is horrible right now. 3 males and 2 females. So besides fighting with each other, they've decided to attack me. They will chase me through the yard, or stand right in front of me and if I move before they get bored and leave, they attack. Duck bites hurt. I've tried to poke them in the shoulder, and tried holding them down. Why are they jerks to me and can I break their meanness? They weren't always mean. Also randomly just one of my chickens absolutely hates my male ducks and will chase them to attack them. I've had to break up fights so no one gets hurt. Why does she hate them so much?

Are your drakes in with your duck hens? How much space do they have? They are teenage boys and It is completely normal for them to fight especially now in the prime of breeding season. As they mature, and sometimes it takes until the second year before they do this, they will pair off or form small groups for breeding. They require several acres for their territory.

Drakes are not usually prone to attack people. Again how much space do they have? What are you doing when they get close enough to bite?

Those drakes could injure your chickens if the drakes try to mate the chicken hens. Your chicken is just protecting herself and her territory.

Hi.

I have three rouen males, Huey, Dewey and Louie.

Your ducks - not only your boys - are so cute...!!

(Thank you for posting so pretty pictures : they are nice to see!)

Is that normal for them?

It is normal for now : your drakes are currently in "mating mode", and thus consider each others as romantic rivals...
(Meaning they are not friends anymore because of that.)

Their aggressive behaviour is going to last until the end of mating season, and there is nothing you can do about it.

Problem is : if you don't separate them from each others for the time being, you take the risk to find a drake dead one morning...

Also randomly just one of my chickens absolutely hates my male ducks and will chase them to attack them. I've had to break up fights so no one gets hurt. Why does she hate them so much?

Birds are, kind of, very much spiteful beings.

Your drakes had to do something - possibly even accidentally - to your hen that she did really not appreciate, and it sounds as she (just) resents them since then.
(That can happen.)

► In the past, my dog had accidentally scared one of my chicken hens by running at full speed right behind her...
Because of that, girl then decided she hated him; and thus, from this day and until she died from old age, she attacked him EVERY TIME he was a bit too close to her for her liking...!!
