I have been raising guineas, so chickens are new to me. We bought an incubator this winter and a friend gave me some eggs from her chickens. We experimented and got 2 hens the end of February. Got a 2nd dozen and got 8 chicks the end of March.
Well Debby who is barely 3 months old laid her first egg. The oldest 2 hens roost with my guineas, while the 8 others roost by themselves, but the chickens stay together all day. I do a head count every night when I lock them up. A couple of guineas were pecking at an egg on the floor. It was much larger than a guinea egg, but felt like a flimsy shell almost like a balloon with a yolk in it. I picked it up and put it in the nest box that was in the coop. I have bedding and an egg in each of the boxes. When I picked it up, Debby started making a soft noise. I wasn't expecting to get eggs from a 3 month old hen, so I haven't been feeding oyster or egg shells to them. I have lots of shells from my hatching keets or eggs that were not fertile, so I will start feeding them shells tomorrow. We don't go to town until next week again to get oyster shells. My 2 roosters are only 2 months old.
Any suggestions will help.

Not possible for a 3 month old pullet to be laying. Can you show a photo of the pullet you think laid the egg? I'm thinking one of your guineas laid it.

I would not feed shells left over from incubation to the birds. Excellent source of bacterial contamination.

Why did you put it in the nest box? A soft egg will break and make a mess of the nest box. Even if the pullet was laying, it is not the best practice to try to hatch pullet eggs.

Have heard of birds this young laying,it’s very, very rare, but it’s just a fart egg.
