I have 6 chickens that are about 3 months old. I noticed this morning one of my orphington chicks doesn't seem quite right. She will hang out on her "knees" a lot, flop down into half lay often and when I put her away this afternoon, she was holding one wing out just a bit low... I picked her up and felt all around, nothing seems hurt or broken. Both wings, legs and all over feel ok... just a worry wart and don't want to lose any of them! Should I be worried about sickness? She seems to be eating and drinking ok and is one of the fattest! THANKS!

Now it has become an emergency... I have taken her out of the coop and put her in a crate in the garage by herself. The others were trampling her and she won't get up, just flopped on her side with wings slightly hung low. I have some fruit, feed and fresh water for her and she dabbled just a tad at each, but still won't really move. I'm afraid she will either get the others sick or they will kill her walking all over her. They were vaccinated for Mericks... and this was so sudden, she seemed fine yesterday! Please help, if I can save her, I sure would like some help to ensure I'm doing all I can!!!

How hot is it?

It's right about 80 right now. I noticed the initial symptoms this morning though... it was nice and cool, around 47 I think. She is the only one so far, the rest are up and moving and seem totally normal.

I've seen them all flop over, stick their feet out and lay in the dirt when they're warm... this is not it. They ALWAYS take off when either me or my dogs get near, they aren't overly friendly and like to keep a distance away. She wouldn't budge, even though all her buddies took off into the coop. I also had to lift her up into the nesting area of the coop, she wouldn't climb the ramp to get herself up.

My chicken is dying... she can't even hold her head up this morning! I sure wish anyone would chime in and help me figure this out!

Check for egg bound(she is young for this, but check anyway),impacted crop, check her vent, any discharge, prolapse, any discharge from eyes, nostrils? Check feed, look for mold, decaying mice, rotten food. Try and give her some electrolytes, make sure she does not become dehydrated. Look all over her.tail, vent, under wings, look for mites/lice. How is her breathing?

Everything seems just fine on her body, vent is clean and no sign of any egg, no discharge from eyes or nose, feed is fine, no lice or bugs... she just is wasting away. Started out of NO WHERE yesterday. I gave her some electrolytes from a kitten bottle and she got some down... hopefully it will help.

Impacted crop?

Not sure how to tell... but I feel absolutely NO lumps, bumps or anything that feels off. Felt her from head to toe. I've read a bit on Mareks, but they were all vaccinated as hatchlings...
