Okay, my chicks will be three months old in a couple days, and my Alfa hen Jenny has started crowing. I know that hens often crow too, but is this normal? There are 8 others in the run, including Bert our rooster ( and Frank on his own because they would have killed him), so it's not because she is lonely. Neither of the roosters have started to crow.

I am reasonably sure of their genders, the roosters' combs are much larger than the others, and they came in sooner too. Of the three Barred Rocks, Jenny has the smallest comb. The two ID'd as roosters also have pointed ends on their hackle feathers, while the rest have rounded hackle feathers.

Not too concerned, none of my neighbors care about the noise (our dog barks, they can't even here him unless they are outside), plus they will get eggs. Just curious really.

Thanks.

Robert

Okay, went out and snapped new pics, the others are a couple of weeks old. Jenny (Barred Rock) and Goldie.

Bert as of a few minutes ago.

It's crowing because it's a young rooster

Like other animals, birds don't develop at the same rate, even hatchmates. But that bird is all male.

I think its a rooster too, sorry, i have two bantam wyondottes at 13 weeks old and the difference is obvious, your little one looks just like my rooster

would love to show a video of mine crowing, he only started yesterday but im new on here and im not sure if i can upload videos
