Hi, I’m new here but I’ve been lurking backyard chickens for awhile. I am new to raising chickens and about a month ago I brought home 3 silkie chicks.

Below are the chicks when I got them at 7 weeks old

My black silkie I’m pretty certain is a rooster. He has hackle feathers on his neck coming in and a pronounced comb that the other two do not have. However, he is the smallest.

However, the other two have some things going on that make me think they could be roosters or hens.
If anyone has anyone input on what they are, I’d appreciate it so much!

Below are my silkies now at 3 months old

White Silkie (I think a hen? No comb development so far and no hackles, also is the more skittish one, however is the biggest chick)

Buff Silkie (small in size, usually not very upright, comb isn’t coming in, but the feathers on the head are looking kind of slicked back and more rooster like?)

Any pictures of your black silkie in comparison to the others? :pop

As of right now I think you are correct, both the white and buff appear to be pullets. However, 3 months still is pretty young to positively determine the gender of a silkie.

Hi! So today I took some more pictures. I realized the black chick (Raven) is not that much smaller than the buff one. I apologize for the muddy feet. It’s been rainy all this week.

If you notice, a walnut comb is coming in.

Here are more pictures of all the chicks for reference. I’m really lost here.

Buff Silkie (Thora)- no comb, but questionable crown feathers.

Raven has a more rounded tail area whereas Thora has this number going on.

All of them together. The white one (Pearl) is the fluffiest and just a bit bigger than the other two.

Update: Raven, the black one, often goes up to Thora (buff) and tries to jump on while flapping wings. Thora dodges it or flaps back. Pearl sometimes jumps and flaps her wings, but I think it’s out of excitement lol. I really don’t know if I’m seeing playful chick behavior, roos trying to assert dominance on each other, or a cockerel trying to “mate”.
