I got 6 baby chicks in March and 3 are crowing - is this possible that half are roosters? The suspects are 2 Copper Marans and 1 Americana. They are all in the first 2 pics with one of the Marans in the background, then last 2 pics are of that background Maran, but little closer. Both Marans have feathered feet. I've only had Cuckoo Marans in the past and none of the hens crowed or had feathered feet and that Americana doesn't look like any of my others ones...did I even get the right babies?

sigh...I can't believe half of my new flock are boys! No wonder the older girls are not happy since the babies were integrated

Yes they were sold as pullets from 2 different feed/farm supply stores which I used for the first time this year as they were closer to my house. Never again! Will stay with trusted feed store ...45 mins away

Most black Copper Marans are normally sold unsexed, those are all definitely roos, the feathering -more of Copper and reds are roos, the wattles and combs are all pronounced and red. The Amerecauna feathering too is of pretty roo color.
I so know the feeling I got 13 new batch of chicks that just turned 8 weeks, 9 are roos and 5 are already crowing, so far I’m cramming to get them adopted 4 are successfully spoken for and 5 more to go.

Thanks - that is good to know about the BCM. I wanted to try the Copper Marans since I love my Cuckoo Marans and now I will stay with the Cuckoos from now on (never a roo in that group!). You're lucky you have homes for 4 of them, I'm now frantically trying to re-home them as well as get 3 more 12 wk olds to replace them. In the same group I got 2 babies that were supposed to be Black Australorps but nope, they are Barred Rocks. Super sweet so that's not too bad...but out of the 6 I bought only 1 is correct (1 Amerecauna).
