Howdy,
The coop and run are now finished. We are ready for our first chickens. We want to be able to pick up and hold our chickens. If we get 3 month old Light Brahmas that have not been handled, do you think they will be trainable to the point where they tolerate and enjoy being held?
Thanks, Jim

Chickens can adapt quickly but there is no real way to know until you just go at it for a week and see how they are behaving. I have seen some 4-6 mo old chickens that weren't socialized to people become very tame.

We got our rooster at 6 months old. He eventually let us old him...only if he is on the roost. My son pets him under his chin (or whatever that area is called on a chicken). When he is out and about don't even think about it.

In general chickens don't like being held...if they squat, it is easier to pick them up and they will tolerate it for a while but in general they're not too thrilled to be held. Now, if you have food in your hand they may jump on your arm (using it as a roost) to get to the food...my son experiences that daily.

Crazy girls.
