3 more got killed! NEVERMIND! 1 **REVIVED**! GRAPHIC pics on pg 2!

A cat?! I have cats... have wild cats in the area. Never had that problem.

I too only let mine out when I'm home. My cats are actually very calm around the chickens and the chickens pick at their spots and stripes. The cats just take it. A wild cat maybe just be hungery as all get out. Do you have a live trap? Can you barrow own from the animal control people? The cat may be owned by someone or it may be wild. Either way, a good animal shelter can take it and even get it a new home. Yes, even wild cats can be tamed... not always, but it can be done.

Hope you get your solution without punishing the cat or the chickens. Good luck!

You do know there are lots of organizations that are commited to helping with feral cat problems. For the most part, they will come out and catch them for you.

I would say trap, neuter, release program would be good thing... but that wouldn't stop them from eatting birds. Once they learn something is a food source, they will keep comming back.

Call vets... they can tell you if you have any of these programs around your area. The vets usually are partnered up with them to do the neutering and euthanizing.

I'm so sorry for your losses, and I'm sorry that cats are doing it because I really like cats'

, but 30 feral cats are tough. Maybe with a havahart you can capture the offender on the first try? But I'd really fence mine in until I was sure. Sounds like you can't afford to lose a lot more. . .

My grandpa used to own a moble home park, and of corse there are always a couple old women that think it's fun to feed the ferals but they tear the skirting up on the trailers really bad and can do alot of damage beside reproducing so fast. One summer he paid me for every one that I caught with his live trap and I took them to somebody hay barn who had said they had wanted mousers. I'm sure you could find someone that would be happy to take the cats off your hands and maybe even come and get them. I know what it's like to lose bird to cats, which is probably why I'm not much of a cat person, I had the neighbors free ranging cat come over and kill 12 7wk old pheasant in 2 nights along with several other birds over a couple years, it all falls under responsible pet ownership. I hope you get it all figured out.

We have cats hanging around too. Some of them look quite longingly at my chickens. However, unfortunately for the cats, we also have very large dogs that guard the perimeter. They don't roam the entire property freely, but enough that the cats keep their distance. I am really sorry you have lost so many, that is really disheartening.

There's tons of mud outside right now (the snow is melting) and I couldn't take the birds out of the coop so today I was scared that they might start eating the dead ones so I went to their coop and I was removing the dead ones and as soon I was going to pick up my white leghorn she moved!!! she was freezing

So I took her inside and I had her under a heat lamp and gave her some food and water.....3 hours later she was up!!!!
