I'm afraid there is not a lot you can do about them messing the bedding up. They scratch through things ie the bedding as its a natural thing they would do with mother hen. Giving them a perch, but not too high can help so they can pop up and down on it. Even some natural branches help with keeping them occupied. You could also add if you have enough room a dedicated dust bath for them.
