The Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia!
We have alot of free range birds and 5 peafowl are among them.
Yesterday all were there for breakfast but during the day noticed
that only 2 peafowl were hanging around....bedtime came and only
those two were there for tree-time/bedtime and they were hollaring
for the other 3....and these 3 are the youngest at @ 1year of age.
This morning still only 2 peafowl and I have walked everywhere
in search for them or signs of them....a hard task and no signs...

any thoughts on where else to look or to try and find?
I don't know...am lost myself not know what happened...
maybe a miracle and they will show up today>>>.

Mine did the same thing only all of mine disappeared, i also looked all over before it got to dark, i called them and they never answered back, next morning same thing , then all of a sudden they came walking out of the one place i did not look.
They will come home when they get hungry and thirst you'll see.

My peas persue other critters, the other day i could not find them so i checked our road/driveway they were 2/10s of a mile down it looking down in the drainage ditch, went down on the 4-wheeler to herd them back and see what they were looking at, it was a cat , the neighboring farm has tons of them, crazy turds i mean birds LOL

Can you imagine seeing someone on a 4-wheeler with 6 dogs herding a dozen peas down the middle of the road? sure glad i do not have any neighbors close by but it is kinda cool when i think about it, i love them turds,, i mean birds

Got my fingers crossed for ya.

Crazy birds love the ditch, much to see down there including an occasional gator, so far they have been babies but i have found duck wings in one of my ponds before i found the first gator, got that one gone and another showed up a month later, now i know where the slides come from in the ditch. And i thought they were from turtles

I live so far inland and did not know how they got here then it dawned on me the fresh water reservoir runs across the front of my property, they told me a while back they had been removing big gators from there lately. I been here 30 years and this is a first, heck my kids use to swim in that reservoir

love your picture of your peas...look alot like mine in color...
the three females that are missing are light in color...one is a Java Green, one a Silver Pied Java Spalding and the last
is a Black Shoulder Indigo Blue......the ones here at the house are different too, one is a white and my male is an Indigo Blue Pied..

have a mixture of colors...I might need to go down the road as you did...they may be side tracked or lost, unsure of their way back??
I don't know, I just want them to come home, like now already!!

Are they old enough to be laying yet?
How long have you had them?
how old are they?
I don't wanna scare ya but i read javas are not home bodies like the blues and if you got to find them and bring them back i would lock that one up for sure.

I have learned one thing from mine, while they are where they should be they will answer back to my calls but if they are out of the territory they will not make a sound when i call, guess they are trying to stay under the radar.

Where ever they are they are together or they would be honking their heads of when they got seperated

the 3 'runaways' are a few weeks short of being a year old....7-1-11 DOB..
so too young to be laying...
all 5 peas always stay together and the only time they are not
is when Blue, the male, takes time for his self....
the young ones have never wandered off...

they have all been fanning out recently....dancing around each other and
the chickens...

the 2 peas here at home have been hollaring regular for the others...
seems sad...

hope they show up soon and yes, I will ground them, into pens they will go...

Zazouse....they did like you said!

I went out and ran roads for awhile and in doing so dinner was late for everyone/birds...
anyway, got everyone fed and within an hour of that all 3 were back!
Blue, my male, came to the living room window and 'knocked' on the screened
window (which he does often for attention I think) so I went to see what he
wanted and there on the porch were my babies! So all 5 are back together
and eating as of my last check.....

thanks so much for your insight and sharing your experience with the peas and
just for takiing the time to talk to me when I was sooo panicked over my peas be
gone....

think I will try and lure the Java into a pen tomorrow...they go in and out already
from these pens so shouldn't be too hard.

again, thanks and yea!!! my peas are home!!

Awesomeness, i know you are relieved and didn't mind being there for you even if it was just on line, we all learn about our bird together here

well sense they came back on their own i would leave them loose, in all likelihood they are done with sneaking out for a while, bet they missed you and their friends.
After mine returned thay slept just about all day and in the tree they roosted in at night , that never happened before.

It is good that they are learning their way away because if they ever get spooked and fly off in a panic they know how to get back home.

Thats just what i would do if they were mine just saying.

Get some rest i know you had a sleepless night cause i did .

PS i would love to see some photos of your gang, i don't see many javas on here and that pied sound beautiful.
