RIR Hens age 8 months, bloody eggs and vents. One died yesterday because the other birds ate it. One is recovering from same fate and I found 1 bloody egg today. I was able to get that hen out before the others started eating her. Other than blood, her vent looks normal.

All had cooci at 1 month and were treated with corid. Other hens do not seem affected....yet.

Thanks
Steve

Sorry to revive such an old thread, but I am getting bloody eggs from my Americauna, so I was reading bloody egg posts.

This post alarmed and confused me. You said, "One died yesterday because the other birds ate it."

What does that mean? Are you saying that the cause of death for the bloodied RIR was cannibalism? Did they peck her to death and then eat her because of her bloody vent? Or did I completely misunderstand?

I hope you're out there Steve. I want to understand this.
