Being very new to this, we bought chicks not knowing what we were doing and ended up with 3 roosters in the flock. Of the three one is really a pretty bad boy-Cleo. He just seems determined to bite all the girls. Zulu- defends the girls and will take on Cleo and send him packing. Rocky occasionally picks on the girls and they send him running.

I need advice on who needs re-homed. Obviously, we are in it for the eggs and I'm having a hard time even eating store bought chicken now that I've gotten to know these wonderful little creatures. They were chicks at Easter so by my calculations, August or September they may start laying eggs.

I say that but yesterday I saw Zulu mounting a hen! So I decided I better get the nesting boxes ready. I need some advice and quick!

I would say pick your favorite and keep him. If he jumps on the girls sometimes, that will be okay. I would get rid of the two that are really bad about it. I know it's hard to get rid of them and also very hard to find a home for them, since nobody really wants more roos.

That's good that you got the boxes ready; some of my hens liked to practice sitting for a few minutes everyday for a few weeks before she started laying. It's good for them to learn that the nest boxes are a safe haven for them.

sounds to me that Zulu is your best rooster since he is defending the girls already, chances are he will protect them from more than just other roosters.

My vote is for Zulu to stay.

Re-home the others
