My roosters have a coop inside of a 10x30 run. I let them out to walk around with me on the property and they are very good about following me. It is my experience that roosters are the best to humans- when there are no hens around. I know this is because they don't have to take on their typical God given rooster responsibilities. I still think they are crucial and is ideal to have a rooster for a flock and it add so much value, but if you have too many, then this is a solution.I would love to hear more about the size and the space that you put your roos in....I was thinking of putting mine on a composting system.
Thanks. Nice to know they're better without hens. How many do you have?My roosters have a coop inside of a 10x30 run. I have 3 roosters, 16 hens, and 2 handicapped hens.Thanks. Nice to know they're better without hens. How many do you have?
I'm guessing you have two roos separate then?I have 3 roosters, 16 hens, and 2 handicapped hens.
That's what I did - I built them a temporary pen inside of my garden along the fence, about 2m x 20m. It wasn't as secure as my permanent run, since it was already in a fenced area, just T-posts and poultry wire on the side within the garden, but I did attach plastic deer netting over the top. I put a sawhorse inside as a perch, and a plastic doghouse as a shelter, and my 3 roosters lived there for a year. They tilled up and fertilized that whole strip of ground, so now I can plant my asparagus there! Saved me a lot of work!I would love to hear more about the size and the space that you put your roos in....I was thinking of putting mine on a composting system.

We gave away one, got more hens, and now they are back in the big run with the hens.
Here's a picture of their temporary yard, not fancy, but they were safe in there and the hens were happy to get a break from their drama!
