3 Week Old - Bent Beak

Hey, I have one of those too, but my Shelly got stuck in a cup upon arrival.

Just a little update on Uno - it turned into cross beak, unfortunately. At least it seems like she can still eat and drink, so hopefully it doesn’t get any worse.

As long as you have everything set up so that they can eat and drink without any problems, they should be fine. (That is as long as it doesn’t get too much worse)

So, Uno’s beak definitely got worse but she’s still eating and drinking just fine. I haven’t had to do anything to assist her, but should I trim her beak some or will that really matter?

Also, she’s 18 weeks old now….does she look it or does she look a little behind growth wise?

It doesn’t look *too* bad for right now, but it may need trimmed in the very near future. I would plan on it soon though. Looks about right to me (age and growth wise).

Regular trims would be a good idea though the 2 sides will never really meet up. Mainly you're just trying to minimize any overgrowth and prevent/minimize chipping on edges that can happen where the beak halves strike one another.

Does it look like I should give her a quick trim? I assume dog clippers would be the way to do it

I've used nail clippers if there's a lot of overgrowth, but for most trims a coarse emery board does the trick. You need to avoid hitting the "quick" of the beak which is the opaque center part, only trim the partially translucent edges or tip.
